Norway intends to have the missile operational on all F-35A fighters by the time the aircraft reaches full operational capability in 2025. Integration work involving the US National Program Office is underway with a number of test missiles already in production. "In Norway’s proposed 2022 defence budget, released on October 12, it was stated that stage three development of the JSM had been carried out in 2020 but that development was considered largely completed in the autumn of 2018. “We already know that other countries are planning to acquire the JSM, and the missile moving into series production will therefore help support both jobs and long term economic opportunities to both Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and their suppliers. Though follow-on development efforts on the F-35 will include further test firings of the JSM, the missile itself is now at a stage where it is ready for phase four and series production, with first deliveries expected in 2023. This has included integration and testing on the F-35. During the initial three phases of JSM development, personnel from the Armed Forces have cooperated closely with engineers at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and researchers at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment to design and develop the missile. One of the most important of these is the JSM, and this contract is therefore essential in ensuring that the Norwegian Armed Forces will be able to declare full operational capability with the F-35 in 2025,” said Ms. “To ensure that the F-35 is able to deliver on the requirements set by the Norwegian Parliament, they must be equipped with modern and effective weapons. Worth nearly NOK 4 billion, the contract represents one of the largest ever acquisitions of armaments for the Norwegian Armed Forces.
